My Paper (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)
by Ms. Bilovsky’s class, TTO My Shot by Lin-Manuel Miranda
I am not throwing away my paper, I am not throwing away my paper
You know I’m gonna try to reduce, reuse, recycle
And I’m not throwing away my paper!
Paper’s made of trees and we need more of these
So we got to reduce the use of paper please
We’re doing assignments on electronic screens
’Cause it’s best when we use less and keep the forest green
When you use paper you should choose
To do your job and when you’re through, reuse
We’d be gratified if you decide
To flip the paper over and write on the other side
When you’re done with paper don’t throw it away
There’s a place to remake it for another day
The blue bin is the one we like
To put the paper in for the win, we recycle!
But I am not throwing away my paper, I am not throwing away my paper
You know I’m gonna try to reduce, reuse, recycle
And I’m not throwing away my, not throwing away my,
Not throwing away my paper!
Notes
The kids in Ms. B's room were looking at ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle in order to utilize natural resources more efficiently. I was astonished at their choice of tune.
Here are some academic standards addressed by this song.
Third Grade
NGSS K-ESS3-3. Communicate solutions that will reduce the impact of humans on the land, water, air, and/or other living things in the local environment.
Fifth Grade
NGSS 5-ESS3-1. Obtain and combine information about ways individual communities use science ideas to protect the Earth’s resources and environment.
And of course, any time you are focusing on recycling.
