God Made Evolution Too
copyright 2012 by Tim Griffin

Since Charles Darwin wrote The Origin Of Species, people argue that it is or isn’t true
And it feels like forever we’ve been arguing about whether all the schools should teach creationism too
Some people still believe that evolution’s just a fad
I’m gonna tell you what I think, I hope you don’t get mad
When I say: God made the universe, God made gravity, and God made evolution too

Old Galileo had to face an inquisition when he claimed the planets move around the Sun
The Catholic church preferred the geocentric position and decreed that it would be the only one (that was permitted)
But eventually they realized it needn’t cause a schism
To admit divine creation has a natural mechanism
Therefore: God made the universe, God made gravity, and God made evolution too

(bridge) God made the universe and everything within
He gave the little particles their charge and spin
He made that Higgs boson and the mass it brings
And if we ever get string theory straight, I guess God made the strings, go strings!

(string solo here… as in string theory, see?)

(bridge) God made the rules that make the universe run
Like gravity and fusion to power the sun
God made a molecule called DNA
So all his living things could reproduce and change along the way

But to this day there are people demanding we adhere what they always thought was true
Though Saint Augustine asserted we should change our understanding when new data proves a different point of view
You know the guys like Galileo, just like Darwin in their day
Had to take a lot of heat before the world swung their way
I say: God made the universe, God made gravity, and God made evolution too

I reckon God made the universe, God made gravity, and God made evolution too!
