Spoon
Talis Kimberley

This spoon is dirty, oh what shall I do?
(Why don’t you wash the spoon?)
I’ll make me another, all shiny and new
(Or you could wash the spoon!)

Wash the spoon, wash the spoon
Or you could wash the spoon!

I’ll go way up North where it’s dark and it’s cold (or you could wash the spoon!)
And search for deposits a million years old (or you could wash the spoon!)
I’ll dig me a well that goes all the way down (or you could wash the spoon!)
That’s where the black stuff is generally found (or you could wash the spoon!)

Wash the spoon, wash the spoon
Or you could wash the spoon!

I’ll build a long pipeline from there to the shore…
If it leaks on a polar bear, pump out some more…
I’ll bring it ashore in a big jolly boat…
If she should founder the oil will float…

Wash the spoon, wash the spoon
Or you could wash the spoon!

Get it refined so it knows to behave…
And melt it and mold to the shape that I crave…
Pack it in boxes with ten thousand more…
Then drive for a week ‘til they get to the store…

Wash the spoon, wash the spoon
Or you could wash the spoon!

I’ll ring up the price that it says on the tag…
And carry it home in a new plastic bag…
Delivery chicken and noodles for two…
Now my spoon’s dirty! Oh what will I do?

Wash the spoon, wash the spoon
Or you could wash the spoon!
Wash the spoon, wash the spoon
Or you could wash the spoon!

Notes

The brilliant Talis Kimberley wrote this anthem to washing and reusing basic utensils instead of making everything out of disposable plastic. Whenever you can, please WASH THE SPOON. And the fork, the knife, the cup, etc.
